My Dual Approach

What is my Dual Approach to shooting weddings?

I think that wedding days are best covered when we shift between two different approaches. Candid and Intentional. There are parts of a wedding where I am asked to take control and orchestrate the results we are looking for. The rest of the wedding would be greatly hindered by my involvement so I shift towards more of a fly on the wall approach. I think it makes sense to be hands on and communicative in your posed portraits and then completely hands off in any of the organic moments that you share. This works really well because we already build our timelines around this stuff. We typically utilize the cocktail hour for all the posed portraits and there are a few other scheduled parts of the day that require my guidance. Outside of those few things, I take a backseat and you don’t have to worry about what I need from you. You can just enjoy the day.

Posed and Intentional

This makes up a small portion of the day. I don’t personally like to pose people all day but I do enjoy shooting portraits in moderation. I encourage a collaborative conversation with my couples when it comes to the portraits because we have so much control and flexibility in this part of your day.

Free flowing and Candid

The bulk of every gallery I deliver is going to be candid moments. I find this to be my favorite stuff to shoot and I believe it is what sets my work most apart from other photographers. Shooting candid moments is where my years of experience really come into play. Good wedding candids require both you and I to just be present with the day. I encourage you to soak up as much of the time you have with your friends and family as you can.

Conclusion

For the most part, every photo in a wedding gallery falls into one of these categories. This dual approach has drastically improved how I experience weddings and I know that it has done the same for my clients.
