Different Ideas for your Engagement Shoot

Typically when we think of engagement photos we picture a pretty outside location featuring the couple posed right smack in the middle of it. Nothing wrong with that. I do it all the time and I love how those shoots turn out. It’s not for everyone and I get that too. If you are someone that wants something different from your photos you have probably been faced with the dilemma of “If not that then what?” If you don’t go outside somewhere for your photos, what other options are there? I encourage my couples to think outside the box and blaze their own path. How can we make your photos unique? Perhaps you want a change in tone? Are you more serious/stoic people? I like to think about movies I really liked or music that I have discovered and subsequently put on repeat to the point of exhaustion. I personally love my indie films and some good moody folk music. So a lot of the stuff I shoot often has that tone to it. I want to know what kinds of things inspire the tone of your inner monologue. Lately I have been exploring new ideas with my shoots and one that has really stuck with me is shooting indoors. There are so many cool rental properties and even film sets that we can rent and shoot in. I love the idea of photographing couples in places like this because it adds another dimension to the shoot. Rather than just interacting with each other, you are interacting with your surrounds together. Here are some of my favorites from three different sessions I did in different Airbnb properties. I have included links to the full galleries too.
